Premier Veterinary Care Pet Ultrasound
Premier Veterinary Care and Resort offers on-site ultrasound exams for the Mandeville, LA pet community. Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging tool that gives our doctors a clear view of your pet's internal health and helps us make a quick diagnosis regarding potential medical conditions that require treatment.
Ultrasound technology uses high frequency sound waves to produce images of the organ structures within your pet's body. The ultrasound scans provide real-time images of possible problem areas and allow us to quickly diagnose the issue and create an effective treatment plan for your pet. In some cases, we may use ultrasound and digital x-rays together to obtain an enhanced view of your pet's internal organs.
At Premier Veterinary Care and Resort, we use ultrasound technology to analyze a variety of medical conditions:
Identify foreign bodies in the abdominal cavity
Examine tumors or masses in the bladder, liver, and kidneys
Evaluate function of heart valves and check size of the heart chambers
Diagnose renal complications such as bladder/kidney stones and/or urinary tract infections
Check for the presence of fluid in the abdomen and thorax
Evaluate pet pregnancy
What To Expect
Ultrasound is pain-free and non-invasive, and your pet should not experience any discomfort during the procedure. Most pets remain relaxed throughout the process so there's usually no need to use a sedative. No radiation is involved. We carefully shave your pets hair/fur before the exam to ensure the ultrasound wand makes proper contact with the skin and the ultrasound waves are not obstructed.
Ultrasound technology is an innovative tool that enables us to quickly rule out specific medical issues, which can help your pet avoid unnecessary surgery or even save their life in an emergency.
